Alongside his brothers Mark, Randy and nephew Andrew, James performed on tours as DeBarge music group, performing R&B, soul, funk and pop. The band was active throughout the late ‘70s and the ‘80s, and released six studio albums: “The DeBarges”(1981), “All This Love”(1982), “In a Special Way”(1983),“Rhythm of the Night”(1985), “Bad Boys”(1987) and “Back On Track”(1991). Their third album, “Rhythm of the Night” turned out to be the group’s best-seller, featuring a single by the same name, which came close to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. Overall, DeBarge made five top 40 pop singles, nine Top 40 R&B singles, five top ten R&B singles, two pop top ten hits, a number one single on the dance chart, and three number one hits on the adult contemporary chart before disbanding in 1989.
